Just tonight I stood before the Tavern... (day 40)

This is The Tavern,  located in historic Abingdon, Va. It is the oldest building in Abingdon and one of the oldest west of the Blue Ridge Mtns. There are records showing that it was built and established in 1779.  Used from the very beginning as a tavern and overnight inn, The Tavern has had it's share of famous guests. Just to name a few: Louis Philippe, King of France; President Andrew Jackson; and Pierre Charles L'Enfant, designer of Washington D.C.
It is such a beautiful restaurant! It's still very rustic on the inside with the original uneven hardwood floors, narrow wooden staircase and stone fire place. The roof, as you can see is moss covered and adds to the charm of this wonderfully quaint place. If you are ever in the area I encourage you to stop by even if it's just to take a photo of history.  Those were the days by Dolly Parton. It's fitting I used her song, she grew up only 2 hours from Abingdon!

  3. Thank you! I love taking pictures of places like this, so much history and a fun place to go! Funny you mention Ellicott City, I live in MD, too.I grew up there in Va (where the pic was taken)But once I got married I moved here. We live in St. Mary's county and travel up that way all the time. We usually go to Arundel Mills to see movies. My husband works at Pax River NAS and he did a rotation in Ellicott City, he actually considered staying there. He really likes it up that way.
